Lodge Use

From Sekhet-Maat Lodge

In an effort to encourage the membership to use the lodge as well as keep the Lodge secure and clean in an easy and simple manner, we have composed this document to facilitate ease of use of the Lodge. Lodge members and affiliates are eligible to obtain the combination to the Lodge for the purposes of facilitating events, initiations, rehearsals and private or personal use. To make this work, we all have to agree to a few guidelines. Please read the following guidelines and then send an email to the Deputy Master to signify your intention to uphold them, after which, s/he will send you the combination.

All members and affiliates of the Lodge are entitled to the combination to the front door and the microfilm. Only members of the Lodge 3° and above are eligible for the initiation closet combination. It is the responsibility of everyone who uses the Lodge to contribute to its safety and cleanliness.

Scheduling Lodge Time

All time at the Lodge should be scheduled on the online calendar. If you do not have a login to the calendar, please forward your request to use the Lodge to one of the officers and we will be happy to put it on the calendar for you.

If you are stopping by the Lodge to pick up things or do a quick errand, you do not need to schedule this on the calendar. Only planned events with prior knowledge needs to be scheduled on the calendar.

We all must, however, always check the calendar before entering the Lodge so to avoid disturbing another member or event. Many of our events, for example, are tyled to a particular degree and we should not enter unless we are the proper degree to do so. If an event is listed as private, closed or otherwise unavailable, please do not enter the Lodge without invitation from the person coordinating the private event.

Responsibility

In general, every event will have a "point" person who is ultimately responsible for locking up. If you are using the Lodge for private purposes you will be the responsible party.

For all events at the Lodge, the following are the responsible parties:

Classes
Person(s) facilitating the class
Special Events
Person(s) in charge of event
Initiations
Initiator
Mass
Priest and Priestess

As we would like to encourage a community effort in clean up, the person listed above is only the responsible party for leading and delegating the clean up. They should not be doing all the clean up themselves, but rather encourage all of those present to pitch in and get the job done. After each event, the Lodge should be left in a state of order and cleanliness as good or better than it was found.

Sign-in Sheet

There is a sign-in sheet next to the door of the Lodge. The purpose of this is to collect historical information regarding temple use. It has areas where you can state your purpose at the Lodge and whether or not you found it clean when you entered.

The responsible party (class facilitator, Priest/Priestess, Initiator or member using the lodge for private event) should sign in at the beginning of an event as well as log in the time they leave, the purpose for use and whether or not the space was clean at the beginning of the event.

Closing up

When locking up at the Lodge, you should always follow the checklists provided for you.

In general, please pay close attention to the following:

  • All windows and both locks on both doors must be locked. Both doors should be hand checked to ensure security.
  • The initiation closet should be locked.
  • The combination box is closed and secure so that passersby may not obtain use of the key.
  • All electric devices are unplugged or turned off as appropriate, including coffee pot, fans, heaters etc.
  • All lights and ceiling fans should be turned off.
  • The heater should be checked to make sure it is turned down to 62°.
  • The classroom, kitchen, office and temple are clean and are set to “default” to facilitate the next event.
  • Garbage should be placed in bin when full. Recycling should be sorted.
  • Put away all food (and dog food), and make sure there are no crumbs on tables or floor. Vacuum if needed.
