Call for Submissions to “Lion & Serpent” (posted 2010-01-25)

Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Friends,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

As we close in on the end of the year and life once again begins to wrest itself from winter’s grasp, it’s time to start putting together a new issue of Lion & Serpent. I’d like to share with you a couple of new goals we’ve set for the coming year. In the past year that I’ve served as the editor for L&S, I’ve been impressed by the quality and quantity of creative works generated by our community. We’ve been able to continue the tradition of using L&S to showcase our eclectic culture by publishing very fine research, creative pieces, ritual, and visual art that reflects myriad facets of Sekhet-Maat Lodge and the broader Thelemic community in Portland.

Some people have added to their long history of contribution to our journal by offering still more pieces to publish; others have made their very first of hopefully many more submissions. This year I would like to see each of these directions taken a step further. To further diversify the material, we have set a goal of attracting submissions from six new contributors over the next four quarterly issues. Conversely, in order to encourage persistence, we have another goal of establishing one more regular written column that will have an installment in each issue. We hope to use these goals as fuel to drive us toward increasing the quality of our publication and likewise to encourage our community’s members to apply the fervency of desire and the discipline of attention to connect with and share that which demands creation.

Now is the time to finish up that essay on the hidden influence of Aleister Crowley in the work of Gilles Deleuze, or to submit a proposal to write a “Conversations with Choronzon” advice column, or send a chapter excerpt from the novel you’re writing. Or maybe you have new artwork that you think would make an arresting cover. Send it in now!

Submission deadline is Sol in 0° Pisces (February 18th). The issue release date is the vernal equinox, Sol in 0° Aries. Please check out the details and submission guidelines at:

Save The Date: T Omphalos US Tour (posted 2010-01-13)

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Join us Saturday, March 6 for two talks by visiting Bishop T Omphalos of the Valley of Trondheim, Norway, followed by a reception in the evening with wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres.
Tau Omphalos’ lectures on March 6 will include two that are open to the public:
The first of these is entitled, ‘A Sword in my Hand: The War-Machine of the Great Beast 666.’ In this talk, The Very Illustrious Sir Knight Omphalos, VII° will treat the history and the function of O.T.O. from its beginning, through the Equinox era, To Mega Therion’s attainment of the Grade of Magus and subsequent fallout with Theodor Reuss. After that, we follow his assumption of the Grade of Ipsissimus, becoming the Outer Head of O.T.O. and the revisions to his plans late in his life. It will track the evolution of his ideas about O.T.O. and trace them to the specific Initiations and tribulations that informed this evolution. Tau Omphalos will also present materials hitherto unpublished, offering much insight and a few startling revelations about the plans the Great Beast 666 had for his war-engine and how this relates to the three Grades of the Order of Thelema.
The second is called, ‘Step into the Sunlight: Monasticism in the New Aeon.’ In this talk, Tau Omphalos unfolds the deep study he has made of the training program that the Great Beast 666 outlined for the novice who wishes to become a Knight-Monk of Thelema, where, freed from the bed of Procrustes, he can live in harmony with the Law of Thelema. Though the lecture is open for all individuals, this talk discusses the complete spiritual work to be undertaken from the Minerval through the Fifth Degree, crowning one above and beyond his fellow men as a Knight-Monk of Thelema.
We also will have a bonus class, open to the public from T Omphalos on the preceding Tuesday evening, March 2, entitled, “The Revelation of the New Aeon: an introduction to the Law of Thelema,” which will discuss the origin, theology, ethics, and culture of Thelema. Moreover, on other days that week he will offer additional talks for initiates only. Stay tuned for complete details!
T Omphalos will only make two stops on his tour: one in Salem, MA, and one here. Don’t miss it!
