Goals/2007 ev

From Sekhet-Maat Lodge

Goals

Each common year, Sekhet-Maat Lodge prepares an annual report to the Electoral College. This report requires us to specify any goals that we have for the year in a number of key areas. We have had many goals each year. Below is a listing of this year's goals, along with regular updates indicating status. To see rough drafts of goals for next year, see: Talk:Goals

(See Lodge Master for details)

  • 1 improvement in progress, 2 others not yet begun. --Fr. HydraLVX 01:00, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • 1 complete, 2 not begun. --Fr. HydraLVX 04:54, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 complete, 2 funded but not yet begun. --Fr. HydraLVX 18:53, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
  • We have found that a major piece of temple equipment is in need of refurbishing very soon, to the tune of $400. We happen to have about $350 in fundraising income which had not yet been allocated to a specific purpose. Adding this new project into the mix gives us 1 complete and 3 funded but not yet started. --Fr. HydraLVX 08:14, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 2 complete, 2 funded but not yet started. The improvement discussed in the above update turned out to only cost a little over $200, so we may use the leftover to fund one of the other projects below. --Fr. HydraLVX 16:05, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
  • We determined that one improvement is out of reach for the present year, as we have increased the scope of the project somewhat. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:04, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
  • 3 complete, 1 goal grew and moved to next year.

Paint Exterior with identifying marks.

  • This project is funded. We raised the money to complete this at the end of 2006 ev. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • We are brainstorming how to overcome the difficulty of using a stencil on the loading dock doors. They have a metal strip over the seam where the doors meet, creating an uneven surface. --Fr. HydraLVX 16:05, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
  • We plan to order one of the smaller stencils to start this week, and to use this to test and learn before spending money for the larger lamen stencil. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Base coat of light gray with red stripe is underway today. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:26, 5 November 2007 (EST)
  • The two smaller stencils are on the way. We will use these to test the cargo door seam, but their ultimate purpose will be for use on the smaller doors. Because of the expense, we decided to try the smaller ones before ordering the large lamen. We are clearly going to be right up against the end of the year at best on this one. Whether we complete this by Dec. 31 remains unknown. --Fr. HydraLVX 01:07, 29 November 2007 (EST)
  • The two smaller stencils are in our possession and we are confident that the cargo door seam will not pose a problem. We did not complete this by the end of the year, but will count it as completed if finished by the end of January when we file the Annual Report. --Fr. HydraLVX 17:19, 4 January 2008 (EST)
  • Incomplete: We will continue to work on this goal in 2008 ev. --Fr. HydraLVX 21:03, 29 January 2008 (EST)

June, 2007 ev
  • This project is funded thanks to a contribution for the purpose. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • A deadline of June 1 has been set for this project. --Fr. HydraLVX 08:14, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Painting is scheduled for the weekend of June 1-3. --Fr. HydraLVX 16:05, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Now in progress. See: Interior Paint and Cataloging 2007 ev for photos! --Fr. HydraLVX 05:27, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
  • Done --Fr. HydraLVX 13:56, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
  • Feedback for the future:
    • --Fr. HydraLVX 20:40, 25 June 2007 (EDT)
      • Need to touch up areas of the curtains that got little to no coverage.
      • Do not use a sprayer. Many hands with brushes and rollers will be better, even on canvas.
      • Use paint that is one step up from having zero gloss.
      • Budget heavily for food and beverages for any major undertaking of physical labor.

Implement new veil structure plan.

Open pass-through from kitchen to temple.

January, 2008 ev
January, 2008 ev
  • This is funded. --Fr. HydraLVX 18:53, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
  • We will be hiring the same contractor who made our mass altar to accomplish this. The cost is $300 more than we originally thought. Therefore we will need to raise these funds. --Fr. HydraLVX 08:14, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • This is now funded at the higher cost. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:04, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Lodge Secretary has the task of making arrangements with the contractor. Having surplus funding at this time, we plan to also install an extension of the kitchen counter. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Pass-through is 90% complete and currently functional. All that remains is to add a formica surface to protect the wood. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:26, 5 November 2007 (EST)
  • Pass-through construction scheduled for January 5. We will call this completed if it is completed on that date. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:50, 6 December 2007 (EST)

Acquire small altar and font

  • Meet specifications of the Gnostic Mass. That is, a "small circular font" and a "small black square altar, of superimposed cubes." --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • We have found an improved font, which was available in a catalog, and it has has been ordered. --Fr. HydraLVX 04:54, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
  • New font has been received and used in Mass. Currently researching altar.
  • Small altar will be beautifully made to spec by the same contractor who made our mass altar. A shelf will be built in like our other wooden altar. The wood will be stained black. This will cost us $200 and we do not yet have these funds. (Please click here to donate!)
  • It has been determined that the new font could use some dressing up. We plan to make a cloth to rest between the bowl and the frame, as we have tried this with some altar cloths and it looks very nice. However we can do better by designing it ourselves. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:46, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
  • Fire altar is now funded. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:04, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Lodge Secretary has the task of making arrangements with the contractor. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • The fire altar will not be completed until mid-January. If it is done by the end of January, we will call this completed. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:51, 6 December 2007 (EST)
  • Incomplete: We will continue to work on this goal in 2008 ev. --Fr. HydraLVX 21:03, 29 January 2008 (EST)

  • We have been doing this for a year already, so it should be no problem. Next year, perhaps we'll incorporate it as a standing rule. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • Rather than incorporating the above as a standing rule, it can presently be assumed as part of our culture. We are now researching the possibility of incorporating a more complete financial picture into our bylaws, to include a provision for endowments. This will take time to develop in coordination with U.S.G.L. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Establish a "rainy day" savings fund of $600.

March, 2007 ev
March, 2007 ev
  • For use if and when it becomes necessary to move to a new location.
  • This goal was added 3/3/06 after filing the ARF. This is an improvement that we have long needed for financial security. Once establishing the rainy day fund with at least $600 by the end of the common year, we plan to continue building that fund to have the equivalent of three months of our current expenses. Therefore once we accomplish this goal, there will be further incremental goals to reach that long-term target. This will be used if and when we have to move to a new location, which is likely to be much more expensive. The first fundraiser that will be dedicated to this purpose will be Thelemic Symposium VI. --Fr. HydraLVX 15:33, 3 March 2007 (EST)
  • Done. We raised $1000 and established this fund at Thelemic Symposium 2007 ev
  • We have put the balance of this fund into a CD at self-help.org. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Actually, we found out that the above-named fund was not insured, so did not proceed with investing. Currently the funds are not earning interest. --Fr. HydraLVX 01:07, 29 November 2007 (EST)

Education & Outreach

Offer six degree-related classes.

December, 2007 ev
December, 2007 ev
  • Facilitated by chartered Initiators.
  • This in addition to walk-through of degrees offered by Initiators to candidates after initiation.
  • We have not had any yet. We are behind schedule on this. --Fr. HydraLVX 18:42, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Our class coordinator has assisted in organizing the efforts of initiators to make this happen by year's end. The classes are scheduled and we should have no trouble completing this. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:04, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Two of these classes have taken place and the others have been scheduled. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Done. Five classes took place in 2007 ev and one more is scheduled to take place in January. We consider this goal completed. --Fr. HydraLVX 17:19, 4 January 2008 (EST)

Offer a hands-on workshop once per quarter.

May, 2007 ev
May, 2007 ev
  • We have already had several in Q1. So far, so good! --Fr. HydraLVX 18:42, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Our Class Coordinator has made workshops a regular installment, occurring on the first Tuesday of each month. We will easily surpass this goal at that rate. --Fr. HydraLVX 16:05, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
  • In September we held a three-day workshop on making a Pantacle of beeswax using a press-mold technique. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • We may not actually have any hands-on workshops scheduled for the fourth quarter, but we have had many more than four throughout the year. We're calling this done. --Fr. HydraLVX 01:07, 29 November 2007 (EST)

Produce four issues of Lion & Serpent with color covers.

  • An issue is very close to coming out. We are a little behind schedule to accomplish this goal. --Fr. HydraLVX 18:42, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Vol. 12, No. 1 is now published and will soon be available online. Plans to produce Vol. 12, No. 2 with the Sun in Leo, proceeding henceforth to produce the Journal as the Sun enters the fixed signs. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:50, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
  • Sun in Leo became Sun in Virgo. At this point four total issues by year end is probably out of reach. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Sun in Virgo became Sun in Libra before we got this issue out. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:26, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Increase total number of classes, discussion groups, and lectures for the year.

October, 2007 ev
October, 2007 ev
  • The number to beat: 97. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:55, 6 February 2007 (EST)
  • So far Jan 1 - Mar 31: 28. At this rate we would exceed our goal by 14. --Fr. HydraLVX 04:54, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
  • We currently have 18 scheduled for Q2. If that is the final number we have slowed down a lot and will be under target for the year at this rate. We will need more classes, workshops and fora to reach our goal. --Fr. HydraLVX 08:14, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • In the previous counts, we neglected to include Initiation Exemplification and rehearsals for same. These are done specifically for training purposes and should therefore be counted as classes. This brings our new projected total through the end of June to 63. At this rate we should easily meet the goal to increase the total number of classes for the year. --Fr. HydraLVX 13:56, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
  • At the end of September we will have held 93 classes, discussion groups, and lectures. We have nearly beaten last year's total after only the third quarter. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Develop continuing education program for chartered Initiators.

January, 2007 ev
January, 2007 ev
  • The first installment of Advanced Initiator Training was facilitated by Sr. Aletheia Mnemonicas and Fr. Khabs Kaos on Jan. 27. This included Qi-Gong meditation, discussion on training officers, and vocal techniques in dramatic ritual. More modules are in development. We are also currently working to develop a new feedback mechanism for Initiators. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • A second installment of advanced training is scheduled for December 2007. In 2008 we will continue to offer a variety of advanced topics. Done. --Fr. HydraLVX 01:07, 29 November 2007 (EST)

Other

At least one Lodge member to be chartered as an Initiator.

  • One member is well on his way to completing the application. --Fr. HydraLVX 00:56, 5 February 2007 (EST)
  • No progress since February. This goal is likely out of reach. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:26, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Perform & publish at least 3 original, member-written rituals.

  • A few pots are in the fire. --Fr. HydraLVX 04:54, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
  • An original ritual celebrating Walpurgisnacht is currently in rehearsal. --Fr. HydraLVX 08:14, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Walpurgisnacht was done and a very interesting experience. Two more rituals are in progress: one for Summer Solstice and one for July, 7, 2007 (7/7/7). We published a ritual from last year in the latest issue of Lion & Serpent. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:08, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
  • The 7/7/7 ritual was a great success and is now available at our Rituals page. We also plan to publish it in Lion & Serpent. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:04, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Another original ritual is planned for December 15: Last Night in Troy. This is not likely to be published before year's end, so although we have performed three original rituals, we will have only published two. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Appoint an Assistant Secretary.

  • One member has stepped up to try helping out with various secretarial tasks. Not sure yet if this will result in willingness to take ongoing responsibility. --Fr. HydraLVX 18:53, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
  • We installed new Executive Officers. The Past Secretary stepped down to focus on developing our EGC training program; the Past Deputy became the Secretary; the Past Treasurer became the Deputy; and the Past Treasurer's Assistant took on the job of Treasurer. Since everyone involved feels more engaged in their new roles, this has resulted in an increase in productivity and so different priorities from appointing an Assistant Secretary. We may or may not pursue this goal at a later date, but at the moment it is on the back burner. --Fr. HydraLVX 20:40, 25 June 2007 (EDT)

Library Goals

November, 2007 ev
November, 2007 ev
  • Catalog library & publish catalog on our website.
  • Implement a computer-based checkout system.
  • These goals were added 3/5/07 after the original creation of the page, but were originally on the Annual Report to the EC, and due to human error were not included here. --Fr. HydraLVX 05:59, 6 March 2007 (EST)
  • Project is in progress and is targeted to be complete 6/14. See: Interior Paint and Cataloging 2007 ev for photos! --Fr. HydraLVX 20:34, 1 June 2007 (EDT)
  • A new Librarian will be installed soon as the previous one did not have time to continue working on the project.
  • We have installed the Lodge Secretary to the post of Librarian and will complete these goals by the end of the year. --Fr. HydraLVX 22:00, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Done. -- cataloging is ongoing for a few remaining titles which lack ISBN numbers. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:26, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Strategic Objectives

These are more of a direction than goals. Throughout the year we should look for ways to accomplish these strategic objectives.

  • Improve website
Through the course of the year, we have made many improvements to the website and the overall web presence of the Lodge. See Website news for a list. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:08, 29 November 2007 (EST)
  • Improve journal
We doubled our frequency of publication! Two issues came out this year, both with full-color covers. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:08, 29 November 2007 (EST)
  • Increase performance quality of Gnostic Mass
The frequency of ritual that we offer allows for an environment of constant, general, gradual improvement. Additionally, we have improved the Mass furniture. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:08, 29 November 2007 (EST)
  • Increase magical/dramatic ritual performance quality
Frequency of performance, again, allows constant gradual improvement. This year, perhaps for the first time, we held more celebratory rituals & feasts than we had holidays in which to fit them. Our Winter Solstice ritual consisted of three days of celebration including an overnight stay and a dawn invocation at the top of Mt. Tabor led by the Lodge founder, Sr. ARGM. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:08, 29 November 2007 (EST)
  • Increase the quality of classes, discussion groups, or lectures
We have had many more offerings this year, with many new classes and practical workshops. --Fr. HydraLVX 03:08, 29 November 2007 (EST)
